Characteristics: Right handed track with flat hurdle chase and bank courses over undulating, free draining land. Hurdle course one mile, six furlongs. Chase course two miles round. Very good soakage, excellent galloping track. New ground always available.
Effect of Draw: High numbers have a slight advantage.

Brief History: The first recognised race meeting was in April 1850. Until the 1960’s there was only one two day meeting each April but in the past thirty years this number has gradually increased to the present 13 fixtures held between October and April Punchestown is unique in being the only racecourse in Ireland that still races over banks with two bank races taking place during the April festival and another in the Sunday fixture in November.
