Who we are…

– AIRO was founded in 1981. AIRO members own over one third of all racehorses in training in Ireland.

– AIRO is officially recognised by the Irish Horseracing Authority and the Turf Club as the owners representative body.

– AIRO has an official representative on the Irish Horseracing Authority.

– AIRO campaigns equally for the rights of multiple or part owners of racehorses and for Flat and National Hunt owners.

Why every owner should join…

It is estimated that racehorse owners contribute more than 70% of the cost of financing our sport. Despite this racehorse owners…

– Win inadequate prize money.

– Have no say in ever-escalating Turf Club charges.

– Do not receive appropriate courtesies at the racecourse in relation to entry, parking, viewing or entertainment.

– Are insufficiently consulted on the major issues affecting our sport such as race planning, programming and conditions.

Our Campaign…

– Higher prize money for all races.

– Minimum prize money of IR 5,OOO per race.

– Elimination of “balloting-out”.

– More opportunities for lower-grade horses.

– Improved facilities (car parking, owners bars and stands) on-course.

– Lower Turf Club charges for all owners.

Increased free entry for partnership and syndicate members.

– Reliable “Going Reports”.

– Improved safety, hygiene and veterinary facilities on-course.
